Adnan Beker's striking response to the İmamoğlu - Yavaş question: 'If you don't vote for your party's candidate, that would be dishonorable and shameful'
Adnan Beker, who announced that he voted for People's Alliance candidate Recep Tayyip Erdoğan instead of Nation Alliance candidate Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu in the 2023 presidential elections and recently joined the CHP, has made striking statements.
Adnan Beker, who resigned from the İYİ Party in November 2023, joined the CHP on March 4. CHP leader Özgür Özel pinned the party badge on Beker.
Statements made by Beker, who has now joined the CHP, after the 2023 elections have come back to the fore. At that time, Beker, who was an MP from the İYİ Party, had said that he voted for People's Alliance candidate Recep Tayyip Erdoğan instead of Nation Alliance candidate Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu. Beker's joining the CHP has caused controversy.
Habertürk columnist Nagehan Alçı, known for her proximity to the government, included striking details in her column today, writing that Adnan Beker, who is at the center of the reactions, had called her.
"ON THE FIELD, THE CHP WAS OUR RIVAL..."
Sharing that Beker said, "Is the Turkey of today the same as the Turkey of the day I said those words, Nagehan Hanım? Now everyone is side-by-side with Demirtaş. Of course, whatever is necessary should be done to end terrorism and lay down arms. Our stance and our red lines are clear. Look, let me tell you this... At that time, they were making us tour the field for election campaigning. By God, we couldn't walk around because of the HDP. People were angry, they were reacting," Alçı stated that he continued as follows:
"I am a local politician. We were going to villages at that time, people were furious. They were saying, 'We will vote for you, but on one condition: you will not vote for Kılıçdaroğlu, you will vote for Erdoğan,' and I was saying 'okay.' Don't forget, we were asking for votes for ourselves; we were not like the other 4 parties. On the field, the CHP was our rival."
"IF WE DON'T VOTE FOR OUR PARTY'S CANDIDATE, IT WOULD BE DISHONORABLE..."
Nagehan Alçı stated that she received the following response when she asked Adnan Beker what he would do if the CHP nominated Ekrem İmamoğlu in the presidential election, while Mansur Yavaş ran as an independent or as the candidate of a separate alliance:
"The CHP is my party; whoever they nominate, I will stand by them materially and spiritually, and of course, I will vote for them. If they nominate Mr. Ekrem, I will vote for Mr. Ekrem. They invited me, and we joined the CHP; if you don't vote for your party's candidate, that would be dishonorable and shameful.
I do not leave my party, and I vote for my party's candidate. I have no expectations from politics. What does it matter if I become an MP again or not... If I don't, I'll go and vacation on my yacht and sit on my farm. I am a person who spends 10 times my MP salary on the citizens. I have never had any business with the state until today."
