After Istanbul and Izmir, it is Ankara's turn! Ban on protests and demonstrations imposed

The Ankara Governor's Office has banned all types of meetings, marches, and press statements throughout the province between March 21 and 25. The ban coincides with the CHP's presidential candidate primary, which is scheduled for March 23.

The statement issued by the Ankara Governor's Office included the following:

It has been gathered through intelligence that, in order to protest the proceedings conducted within the framework of investigations carried out by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, provocative posts made on some social media and similar platforms, as well as other information obtained, indicate that illegal meetings and protest marches, followed by acts of violence, will be carried out by provoking the public.

In this context, throughout our province; in order to ensure peace and security, the inviolability of the person, the safety of property, public welfare, national security, public order, the prevention of crime, the protection of general health and public morality or the rights and freedoms of others, and as part of preventive law enforcement measures to prevent acts that constitute a crime and to establish general public order, (excluding those previously permitted) indoor and outdoor meetings and protest marches, press statements, setting up tents, opening stands, sit-in protests, signature campaigns and similar types of actions and events, as well as the distribution of flyers and the hanging of banners/posters, have been banned from 14:00 on Friday, March 21, 2025, until 23:59 on Tuesday, March 25, 2025, in accordance with Articles 17 and 19 of the Law on Meetings and Protest Marches No. 2911 and paragraphs (A) and (C) of Article 11 of the Provincial Administration Law No. 5442.

Necessary judicial and administrative proceedings will be carried out within the framework of the relevant legislation against those who do not comply with the aforementioned orders and prohibitions.
