Aftershocks occurred before the 6.1 magnitude earthquake

The 6.1 magnitude main earthquake that occurred at 19:53 in the Sındırgı district of Balıkesir caused great panic in surrounding provinces as well. The earthquake was felt in provinces such as Istanbul, Izmir, Kocaeli, Tekirdağ, Kırklareli, Aydın, Manisa, Kütahya, and Denizli.

According to AFAD data, the epicenter of the earthquake was determined to be the center of the Sındırgı district. The depth of the earthquake was announced as 11 kilometers.

In the examinations carried out after the 6.1 magnitude main earthquake in Sındırgı, it was determined that 43 aftershocks occurred before the 6.1 magnitude tremor. The first of these tremors occurred on August 10 at 00:21 with a magnitude of 3.8. Then, in the morning hours, another aftershock with a magnitude of 4.0 occurred. Among the 43 foreshocks, four occurred on August 10, most of which coincided with nighttime hours.

GET-WELL MESSAGE FROM THE MAYOR

After the first 3.8 magnitude aftershock that occurred during the night, Sındırgı Mayor Serkan Sak made a statement on his social media account and conveyed his get-well wishes to his people. Sak used the following expressions:

"Get well soon, Sındırgı! We convey our get-well wishes to all our fellow citizens affected by the 3.8 magnitude earthquake in our district, whose epicenter was our Kozlu Neighborhood. According to the information received, there have been no negative incidents in our district. May God protect us from worse."
