Ahmet Hakan criticizes Gürsel Tekin following his resignation from the CHP
Hürriyet Editor-in-Chief Ahmet Hakan, known for his proximity to the government, commented on Gürsel Tekin's resignation from the CHP, stating, "He was not a man of the cause."
Former CHP deputy Gürsel Tekin resigned from the CHP following crises during the candidate selection process.
Announcing his resignation on his social media account, Tekin criticized the party leadership with harsh words.
Journalist Ahmet Hakan, known for his proximity to the government, addressed Tekin's resignation in his column in Hürriyet.
In his article titled "Gürsel Tekin was not a man of the cause either," Hakan included the following remarks: "The problem is not that you objected. The problem is that you chose to run away instead of fighting."
Hakan's article is as follows;
"He has held every position imaginable in the CHP, served as a deputy for four terms, and even became the 'second man' of the party at one point. Should the first and only action of such a figure, when he believes he has been treated unfairly in the party, be to resign? I can almost hear Gürsel Tekin saying: 'They left me no choice but to resign. They established crony relationships, turned the party into a party of relatives, and trampled on the spirit of camaraderie. They made promises and did not keep them. What was I supposed to do, brother?' I answer: You could have stayed in the party and started a struggle to end those crony relationships, Brother Gürsel. You could have still made your scathing statements. You could have still pointed out the cronyism. You could have still shaken things up. In other words, the problem is not that you objected. The problem is that you chose to run away instead of fighting. A party means a cause. Can a man who abandons his cause the moment he sees difficulty be a man of the cause? I have always said it, and I say it again: The CHP has everything, but it lacks a sense of cause."
