Ahmet Hakan writes AKP's salvation recipe in 5 points

The results of the March 31 Local Elections had a shocking effect on the AKP.

For the first time in 22 years, the AKP fell to the position of the second party across Turkey. Following the election results, whether AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan will make changes within the party and the cabinet has become a matter of curiosity.

Hürriyet Editor-in-Chief Ahmet Hakan, known for his proximity to the government, wrote the AKP's salvation recipe following the election defeat.

Listing the mistakes made by the AKP in 5 points, Hakan commented, "Salvation is possible."

In his article titled “The salvation of the AK Party: Ruthless internal criticism,” Hakan noted the following in summary:

"MISTAKE 1- DIRTY LAUNDRY SHOULD BE WASHED IN PRIVATE

Those who avoid internal criticism usually act with the logic that "dirty laundry should be washed in private." However, this logic is a tribal logic. It is a large family logic. It is a small clan logic. Trying to cover up mistakes leads to the decline of mass parties like the AK Party. Also, let us not forget: We are living in an era where dirty laundry can no longer be kept private. Therefore, such protectionism does not work anyway.

MISTAKE 2- LET'S NOT GIVE THE OPPONENT AMMUNITION

This is a harbor for those who avoid internal criticism. The approach of "Let's not give the opponent ammunition" cuts off internal criticism abruptly. However, avoiding internal criticism serves no purpose other than giving the opponent even more ammunition. Ruthless internal criticism, on the other hand, leaves the opponent without ammunition.

MISTAKE 3- DO THE OPPONENTS DO THIS?

Another approach hostile to internal criticism is shaped as follows: "Look at our opponents. How they protect each other. They even stand by the one who makes the most serious mistake. We, on the other hand, tear each other apart immediately." This is a very wrong observation. Not all AK Party opponents have such a feature. In that camp, too, there are those who pounce on someone who makes a serious mistake. There are countless examples of this.

MISTAKE 4- DON'T WASTE PEOPLE EASILY

We are in a period where even a social media post made by a neighborhood representative of a tiny town is used against the AK Party government. In such a period, the names at every level of the party... - Their lack of decorum is attributed to the party. - Their irresponsibility erodes the party. - Their mistakes damage the party. - Their silliness is identified with the party. - Their lack of awareness harms the party. It is essential for the party to defend itself against these. What needs to be done is not called wasting people. Because what needs to be done is ruthless internal criticism. Those who act irresponsibly, those who act without awareness, those who make mistakes, those who act silly, those who lack decorum must be shredded in the internal criticism mechanism.

MISTAKE 5- LET'S HANDLE IT WITHIN OURSELVES

Another enemy of ruthless internal criticism is the following understanding: "Okay. Let's do internal criticism, but let's do it within ourselves. Let's not do it in public. Let's not do it in front of everyone." Such internal criticism is of no use to anyone. Internal criticism that the public is not aware of, does not know about, and does not hear is not internal criticism. Even the person subjected to criticism is not affected by internal criticism that is not voiced loudly in public. Internal criticism not done in public makes neither the party credible nor does it allow the party to protect itself."
