Hürriyet newspaper Editor-in-Chief Ahmet Hakan stated that Panathinaikos head coach Ergin Ataman responded to the profanity of Fenerbahçe fans in Berlin with profanity of his own, saying, "If Ergin Ataman had simply ignored that ugly chanting and walked into the hotel in three steps... There would have been zero problems. No incident would have occurred. He would not have gotten into trouble."

Noting that Ergin Ataman seems to derive a joy for life from tension, Hakan said, "His face had flushed. From the moment he entered the fray, he was experiencing a strange burst of energy.
