Ahmet Özer thanks Devlet Bahçeli, calls on the government: 'The addressee of these words is...'

Ahmet Özer, the elected Mayor of Esenyurt who was removed from office and replaced by a government-appointed trustee, shared his views regarding MHP Chairman Devlet Bahçeli's statement that "the Ahmets should sit in their offices."

Ahmet Özer, who was arrested as part of the "urban consensus" case and sentenced to 6 years and 3 months in prison on charges of "membership in a terrorist organization" after spending approximately one year in prison, expressed that he finds Bahçeli's move significant.

Thanking Bahçeli, Özer stated, "I would like to reiterate that these steps in the peace process will be very valuable in terms of democratization."

Underlining that the responsibility lies with the government, Ahmet Özer continued his statement with the following words:

"We know that the addressee of these words is the government. At this point, taking these steps, which have been agreed upon in the commission and do not even require legal regulation, as soon as possible is the public's greatest expectation on the path to the socialization of peace and democratization."
