Airstrike in northern Iraq

The statement made by the Ministry of National Defense is as follows:

"In order to neutralize the PKK/KCK and other terrorist elements; to eliminate terrorist attacks against our people and security forces from northern Iraq and to ensure our border security; in accordance with our right to legitimate self-defense arising from Article 51 of the United Nations Charter, an airstrike was carried out on July 26, 2024, against terrorist targets in the Gara, Qandil, and Asos regions in northern Iraq. With the airstrike carried out, 25 targets consisting of caves, bunkers, shelters, depots, and facilities used by the Separatist Terrorist Organization (STO), which are assessed to also contain terrorists at the leadership level, have been destroyed.

In this operation, a large number of terrorists were neutralized by using the maximum amount of domestic and national ammunition.

The Turkish Armed Forces, which emerged from the bosom of our noble nation, will continue the fight against terrorism with determination and resolve until the last terrorist is neutralized, for the survival and security of our country and our nation, just as it has in the past.

During this operation, every measure was taken to ensure that innocent people, friendly elements, historical and cultural assets, and the environment were not harmed."
