Akın Gürlek: Three critical cases, including Gülistan Doku, are being meticulously examined

Minister of Justice Akın Gürlek shared important information regarding the work being carried out on the Gülistan Doku case. According to the latest statements, not only the case regarding the disappearance of Munzur University student Gülistan Doku on January 6, 2020, but also other similar incidents that have resonated with the public are being handled comprehensively.

According to Gürlek, the new team established under the Ministry of Justice is meticulously examining not only the Doku case but also the situations of Rabia Naz and Rojin Kabaiş. It was noted that in the more than 6 years that have passed since Doku's disappearance, various developments have occurred in the file, and most recently, 13 people were detained and 2 people were arrested.

Emphasizing that they are closely monitoring the process, Minister Gürlek stated, “We have established a team within the Ministry of Justice. This team will examine the files that have wounded the public conscience. It is not just the Gülistan Doku file; the Rabia Naz and Rojin Kabaiş files are also being examined.”

Gürlek stated that, regardless of the perpetrator's identity, they trust the diligence of the chief public prosecutors and show sensitivity toward cases involving women and children that have resonated in society. The Minister further added, “Regardless of who it may implicate, we stand by our chief public prosecutors who are conducting the investigation meticulously.”

FAMILY RESPONSIBILITY FOR CHILDREN DRAGGED INTO CRIME IS ON THE AGENDA

Following the increase in violent incidents in schools, the Minister of Justice stated that the responsibility of families in crimes involving children could also be taken into consideration. Gürlek noted that various drafts are on the agenda to increase penalties, especially for violent incidents and murders.

The Minister stated, “If necessary, we will bring to the agenda holding our families responsible for certain crimes committed by children if they neglect their duty of supervision and care.”

Furthermore, it was reported that new legislative work regarding the impact of social media and television content on children is ongoing, and that criminal sanctions are being planned regarding the improper storage of licensed firearms at home. It was also stated that the regulation of murders occurring in schools as “qualified crimes” is being evaluated.
