AKOM gives the date: Thunderstorms are coming to Istanbul

Istanbul will experience sunny days in the coming week, but a local shower warning has been issued for Friday. According to weather forecasts shared by the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Department of Disaster Affairs and Risk Management (AKOM), temperatures across the city will remain around seasonal norms while the wind continues to be effective.

Istanbul residents will encounter a clear and bright sky for most of the week. However, the northeasterly wind (poyraz), which will show its effect starting from Thursday night, will contribute to keeping the felt temperatures in the 26-30°C range and prevent extreme heat. On Friday, thunderstorms will be effective in the city for a short time.

Starting from the middle of the week, partly cloudy skies will be seen, and temperatures will rise up to 29°C during the day. In the morning and evening hours, temperatures will be around 21°C. At night, thermometers will show 18°C. While humidity will frequently vary between 50 and 80 percent, it was announced that the sea water temperature is 21°C.

In the following days of the week, it was stated that the wind blowing from the north could occasionally reach storm intensity (30-60 km/h). Authorities advised that caution should be exercised, especially in open areas and in maritime transport.

For those planning for the weekend, there is no rain forecast for Thursday, and temperatures are expected to be between 18-27°C. On Friday, short-term but effective thunderstorms are expected, and it is stated that 2 to 5 kilograms of precipitation per square meter may fall. While the temperature is expected to drop to 25°C after the rain, the clouds will disperse again on Saturday, and the temperature will return to the 17-27°C range.

On Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday, the sun will show itself again; daytime temperatures will rise to the 28-29°C band, and no precipitation is expected. Thus, after the short-term rain on Friday, summer weather will continue to make its effect felt in Istanbul throughout the week.
