AKOM sets a date: Temperatures to rise in Istanbul
The Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (İBB) Disaster Coordination Center (AKOM) has announced that temperatures are expected to rise starting today and remain in the 11-15 degree range throughout the coming week.
According to the statement made by AKOM, which is affiliated with the İBB, the freezing cold weather that dropped below zero degrees across the city will give way to a day starting with a partly cloudy and clear sky, with temperatures hovering around 8 degrees throughout the day.
The cold and rainy weather that has been effective in the city since the beginning of the week will leave the region, and a mostly sunny sky will prevail throughout the week, with the exception of Tuesday, January 16; temperatures will rise starting today and remain in the 11-15 degree range throughout the coming week.
In Istanbul, air temperatures are expected to remain around or 1-3 degrees above seasonal norms until January 24, and around or 1-3 degrees below seasonal norms between January 25 and 31.
BEWARE OF BLACK ICE ON ROADS
Furthermore, a warning was issued regarding the possibility of "black ice" on roads during the winter season due to the rapid cooling of the ground surface on cloudless nights; it was stated that warnings from the Ice Early Warning System (BEUS) should be taken into account, and that necessary checks and interventions should be carried out on routes.
