AKP announces execution package! Swift response from DEM Party: 'The mountain couldn't even give birth to a mouse'

Peoples' Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Party) Group Deputy Chair Sezai Temelli announced that his party will visit Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor and CHP presidential candidate Ekrem İmamoğlu, who is imprisoned in Silivri Prison, after the holiday.

Speaking on a Halk TV broadcast, Temelli stated that they would also visit Ahmet Özer and Can Atalay, and added the following:

'Actually, our party is constantly making prison visits. We have to do this because if there is even one political prisoner in prisons, you cannot talk about democracy in that country. Of course, our party will also visit Mr. Ekrem after the holiday. Ahmet Özer as well, and Can Atalay too. We have made these visits before, and we will continue our uninterrupted struggle for all political prisoners to regain their freedom. Let no one have any doubt about this. Every lane must proceed in its own course.'

Reacting to political arrests, Temelli also drew attention to the situation of former HDP Co-Chairs Figen Yüksekdağ and Selahattin Demirtaş, who have been in prison for 8.5 years. 'If you constantly prevent politics from becoming free with operations like the one on March 19, it is not possible to achieve healthy progress in other areas. We advocate that Mr. Ekrem and other imprisoned politicians should be free as soon as possible. Demirtaş and Yüksekdağ have been inside for 8.5 years. There is nothing in the file; the reasoned decision has not been written for 1 year,' he said.

'A CLEAN SLATE IS NEEDED'

Sharing his views on the new constitution discussions, Temelli said, "We want the constitutional discussion to be debated over what kind of a constitution it should be. We need to discuss the constitutional strategy. Saying 'I have made a constitution, come' is not a healthy method. A clean slate is needed for a civil constitution. The execution law, the anti-terror law, none of them are civil," he said.

'THIS TIME THE MOUNTAIN COULDN'T EVEN GIVE BIRTH TO A MOUSE'

The first reaction to the regulation submitted to the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM) came from DEM Party Group Deputy Chair Sezai Temelli. Criticizing the regulation on live broadcast, Temelli said, "Yes, there is a famous saying, 'The mountain gave birth to a mouse.' This time, the mountain couldn't even give birth to a mouse. Unfortunately, this judicial package did not come before us in a way that meets the expectations of society or developments in other areas.

None of the things described are of a nature to meet the urgent expectations at the moment. It just didn't happen. If a package that has been talked about so much comes before us like this in the end, we say 'it didn't work' in one word. I wish the mountain had given birth to a mouse, we would have said: 'Well, at least there is a mouse.' Like a hope to start with. There is no such thing. What is understood here is that the things the government sees as risks are such risks that they prevent them from taking action.

'THEY DID NOT TAKE A STEP ON THIS ISSUE'

Now, when we ask, what they tell us is this: They say, 'There is a perception of impunity in society. In society, women's murders, rape of women, child abuse, violence against children, their slaughter, or today the drug issue is very common in society, and releasing people from prison with such an execution regulation while fighting these would create public outrage.' Well. If there is really such a sentiment on these issues, an execution regulation could still have been made by protecting such exceptional cases through the Penal Code and various regulations. Although we have expressed this many times, they did not take a step on this issue. They put these forward as a risk."
