AKP District Chair seizes the opportunity of heavy rainfall: Hands a fishing rod to a person and records a video
The moments when AKP Konak District Chair Mehmet Sait Başdaş had someone record a video while handing them a fishing rod due to the rainfall drew a reaction from İzmir Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Cemil Tugay. Tugay stated, "On behalf of thousands of workers, I leave you to God."
The thunderstorm and heavy rainfall that affected İzmir today negatively impacted daily life and transportation in the city.
Following the rain, İzmir Metropolitan Municipality teams quickly took to the field to intervene against the water accumulation and the rise in sea level.
In a video that became a trending topic on social media, footage showed AKP Konak District Chair Mehmet Sait Başdaş having a person hold a fishing rod to stage a scene of the flooding.
While municipal personnel can be seen intervening in the background of the video, Başdaş's sharing of these images sparked controversy in the public eye.
Reacting to the situation, İzmir Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Cemil Tugay said the following in a post on social media:
'It has been raining heavily in İzmir for days. Our teams are working heart and soul to solve the problems that have arisen. Meanwhile, look at how the AKP Konak District Chair is trying to smear İzmir. He hands a fishing rod to a person and records them to create a perception. At this very moment, İZSU teams are working in the background. What a shame.. On behalf of the people of this city, and on behalf of the thousands of workers who are working heart and soul in the field, I leave you to God.'
