AKP mayor's first act after the election was to revoke salary raises
The first act of AKP's Tiryaki, who took office after receiving his certificate of election on April 4, was to revoke the salary raises that Altındağ Municipality workers had earned through an additional protocol.
Approximately two weeks before the local elections held on March 31, workers at the AKP-run Altındağ Municipality had launched a protest in front of the municipality over months of unpaid retroactive wages and demands for equal pay.
The workers had protested against the then-AKP Mayor Asım Balcı and the Hizmet-İş Union, which is affiliated with the Hak-İş Confederation.
As a result of the workers' resistance, the retroactive payments were made, and it was stated that a 30 percent raise would be granted to the workers through an additional protocol.
REVOKED THE RAISES EARNED THROUGH THE ADDITIONAL PROTOCOL
According to the report in Solhaber, Balcı became the AKP's mayoral candidate for Mamak in the local elections and was not elected.
Veysel Tiryaki, whom the AKP nominated as the mayoral candidate for Altındağ to replace Balcı, became the new mayor by receiving approximately 47 percent of the votes.
The first act of Tiryaki, who took office, was to revoke the salary raises that Altındağ Municipality workers had earned through the additional protocol. It was learned that Tiryaki made this decision with the newly elected Municipal Council members.
While the cancellation of the raises by Tiryaki and the new administration drew backlash, the workers went on strike following the decision.
The workers' protest in front of the municipal building continues.
