AKP spokesperson Ömer Çelik on early elections after MKYK meeting: 'There will be no elections for 3.5 years'
Announcing the AK Party's congress calendar, Party Spokesperson Ömer Çelik responded to Özgür Özel's remarks on early elections. Çelik stated, "Municipalities are in the news for failing to provide services and for nepotistic appointments. We believe all of this is being used to cover up the early election debate. There will be no elections for 3.5 years."
AKP Spokesperson Ömer Çelik made statements following the Central Decision and Executive Board (MKYK) meeting.
Highlights from Çelik's remarks are as follows:
CALENDAR TO BE CLARIFIED
A comprehensive presentation regarding the congress process was made to our MKYK by our Organization President, Mr. Erkan. This calendar is expected to be completed by the end of March. The calendar for the grand congress will be finalized at the end of March. As of September 21, the delegate election calendar will be in effect. Town congresses will take place on October 12. District congresses will also be held on the 12th. It is expected to last until the 93rd. Provincial congresses will begin on December 28. It is expected to be completed by the end of March, and the grand congress will take place. Political activities for the new term will be discussed. Throughout September, our deputy chairmen and MKYK members will meet with our citizens.
'THE ESSENTIAL THING IS TO FULFILL THE NATION'S DEMANDS'
The medium-term program will be announced on September 5. We have full confidence in our economic team. I would like to state that the rumors regarding the resignation of our minister colleagues in the economic administration are false. These are for speculative purposes. They are black propaganda activities by those who are uncomfortable with positive results. The essential thing is to fulfill the nation's demands. We are continuing on our path.
'OUR DESIRE IS FOR THESE CHILDREN TO BUILD A FUTURE'
The Diyarbakır mothers have entered their 6th year. We once again convey our love to the mothers who are calling out to the conscience. It is our desire for these children to build a future with the awareness that everyone in this country is a first-class citizen. Those who claim to defend these rights are trying to turn them into appendages of terrorist organizations. The action of the Diyarbakır mothers, as an action of mothers who want to save their children from terrorism, has become one of the loudest calls in the world. The fact that they have not received support from Western human rights organizations should be evaluated carefully. The double standard is drawing everyone's attention. This is a concrete test for those who say they stand for democracy today. If you do not support this action, your rhetoric and your sensitivities regarding human rights are doomed to remain hollow.
'IT IS IMPORTANT TO KEEP THE INTERNAL STRUCTURE STRONG AGAINST THE AGGRESSION OF THE NETANYAHU GOVERNMENT'
We are against the attitude that tries to create a wounded consciousness in the memory of our nation. We possess a long state tradition. We are walking into the future with our Republic of Turkey, which is the apple of our eye. It is important to keep the internal structure strong. We are political rivals, but we are not enemies. It is important to keep the internal structure strong against the aggression of the Netanyahu government. Our names may be different, our affiliations may be different, but our surname is the Republic of Turkey.
'WE ARE AGAINST ALL ATTACKS'
We will maintain this sensitivity at the highest level against those who try to produce any kind of virus. Those who claim to be practicing Kemalism while attacking the values of the nation are actually attacking Atatürk. Great struggles have been waged from our first president and founder of our state, Atatürk, to Erdoğan. Attitudes against Atatürk and Erdoğan are attitudes that must be condemned. They are elements of hate speech and are movements aimed at dismantling the internal front. There may be competition among administrators, but there is no right to insult the citizens who vote for them. Regardless of which political party the citizens belong to, we are against all attacks.
'WHETHER THEY VOTE FOR US OR NOT, THE WILL OF THE CITIZEN IS RESPECTABLE'
Whether they vote for us or not, the will of the citizen is respectable. In addition to the ugly language directed at Atatürk and our president, this also reflects on society. Practices directed at women wearing headscarves occur as a result of hate speech. The duty that falls to political parties here is this: welcoming and applauding a person who insults the party base and the president is applauding the insult. This is what does not befit a political party. It has indirectly carried out the protection of those who attack their own base. The fact that the person who made these insults was protected by the CHP chairman has been a highly erroneous situation. For someone who has served as a CHP deputy chairman in the past, the disciplinary mechanism within the CHP should be operated in the face of ugly language. One must not confuse political criticism with insults.
'THIS WAS A PUBLIC ORDER INCIDENT'
A person from another political party said that a businessperson was killed because they spoke Kurdish. This was a public order incident. Approaching it as if they were murdered because of the language they spoke is a provocation. If any person, a guest, is targeted because of their language, we will take a stand against it.
'THEY ARE BRINGING UP THE EARLY ELECTION DEBATE AS A RESULT OF A DEADLOCK'
If one were to ask what the worst joke of 2024 is, this would be number one. Saying that they will defeat our president cannot be treated as a political assessment. After the election ended, they said, 'We don't want elections or anything, we will provide services in the towns.' It appears that this plan did not work. There is no service in the municipalities. It is being discussed which actors in the CHP are moving to the forefront and who is visiting whom. Now they are talking about a charter convention. They are bringing up the early election debate as a result of a deadlock. We will continue by maintaining stability and taking further steps in service politics. These 3.5 years are important within the framework of the Century of Turkey. Right now, there is an early election within the CHP.
'IT HAS BEEN SEEN THAT PRODUCING MILITARY TUTELAGE HARMS THE TSK THE MOST'
The subject should be divided into two. A noteworthy point is that for the first time in our country's and world history, female students came in first at the Army, Air Force, and Naval War Academies. We were saying it would be the century of women; this was a development that fulfilled our motto. In the past, it was seen that producing military tutelage over the army harmed the Turkish Armed Forces (TSK) the most. It is valuable for our citizens to share in the graduation of the youth. Criticisms by citizens exercising their democratic rights by recalling bad experiences based on someone's statement should also be met with respect. There are two malicious issues here. One group talking about these images as if a message was sent to Erdoğan or the government is a matter of resurrecting the old understanding of tutelage. Also, insulting the lieutenants while trying to respond to them is unacceptable. Our sensitivity regarding the infiltration of tutelage into the TSK is high. Our experience is clear. Our attention is high.
'DEMOCRATIC OVERSIGHT MECHANISMS ARE BEING OPERATED IN THE STRONGEST WAY'
Democratic oversight mechanisms are being operated in the strongest way; nothing can be allowed. When they say they drew swords against the government based on the images, we see that their goal is to resurrect the old elements of tutelage. These lieutenants were trained for the future of our country. Our sensitivity regarding our apple-of-the-eye TSK focusing on its primary duty is high. If there is any lack of discipline, that will also be looked into. There are those who handle the issue in a distorted way, saying 'this is a message to Erdoğan' when respect is shown to the eternal commander-in-chief of the armed forces, Atatürk. Treating the respect shown to Atatürk in a way directed at our president is unhealthy. We convey our congratulations and respects to the families of our lieutenants. If we look at Mr. Namık Tan's statement, he wants to continue the debate. These expressions do not contain a denial directed at us. First, he denied the deputy chairmen and Deniz Yücel. When we gave the necessary response, it was said in Deniz Bey's statement that our official view rejects Namık Tan's views. Now, here again, Mr. Tan continues to call the 'Blue Homeland' a 'fairy tale.' He has voiced Greece's counter-theses as his own theses; this is very dangerous.
