AKP officials answer the question everyone is wondering about regarding the Iran War! Will there be a wave of migration to Turkey?

As tensions in the region escalate following the attacks launched by the US and Israel against Iran, Ankara is closely monitoring Tehran's targeting of military points, particularly in Gulf countries. AKP officials state that the base areas in Turkey are not active, that bases in the Gulf are a higher priority target for Iran, and that Ankara's balanced foreign policy and mediation approach keep Turkey outside the conflict line. Party sources also express that they do not foresee a wave of migration from Iran to Turkey unless a civil war similar to the one in Syria occurs.

Nefes columnist Nuray Babacan carried the assessments of AKP officials regarding Iran's stance following the US and Israeli attacks to her column.

AKP officials used the following expressions:

"The impact and consequences of the war depend on how much damage the parties inflict on each other. If the Iranian administration does not choose the path of finding a middle ground or compromise, or if it inflicts more damage than expected on the US and Israel, they will not stop until they bring them to their knees.

Because the US representatives we spoke with before the war were expressing that they were willing to accept a certain amount of loss. Iran's style of attack, which also encompasses surrounding countries, will be met with harsher violence by the US. That is where the real danger lies.

The wars of the new era are in the form of 'remote warfare.' They are aimed at causing pinpoint damage, changing the government, the regime, and the administration. If Iran shows a harsher reflex, it means the US will burn and destroy the country, which is what is worrying.

Currently, there is no concern regarding the war directly affecting Turkey. However, preparations are ongoing for all possibilities. As we said, if the dose of violence increases, risks will begin for us from that point on. First and foremost, difficulties will be felt in economic terms.

Will there be a wave of migration?

From our perspective, a wave of migration does not pose a risk for today. If the war changes form, if a conflict begins within the country between pro-government groups and the opposition, and if ethnic groups move toward different formations, that is when a wave of migration would begin. We do not expect migration unless there is a civil war like in Syria.

There is no risk regarding the bases for now. The base areas in our country are not active. For Iran, the bases in the Gulf region are a greater threat. Furthermore, Turkey's balanced policy and understanding of mediation keep us out of the war.”
