AKP's field reports offer no hope: The agenda is the economy, not CHP
According to assessments shared from within AKP circles, developments within the CHP are not expected to change voter behavior on their own. Party sources stated that the primary agenda for citizens is the cost of living and financial hardship, and therefore, steps taken regarding the economy will be the deciding factor.
While the debates that began following the absolute nullity decision regarding the CHP continue to maintain their place on the political agenda, different assessments regarding the process have been made within AKP circles.
According to a report by Cumhuriyet, the party leadership and members of parliament have reached a consensus that the developments within the CHP will not provide direct political gains for the ruling party.
"THE VOTER'S PRIORITY IS THE ECONOMY"
According to the field assessments of party officials, economic problems constitute the main agenda of the voters. Sources stated that citizens express their financial hardships more than political debates.
While it was reported that the cost of living, rent prices, increases in food costs, and the decline in purchasing power are the most prominent topics, it was stated that the feedback coming from local organizations is being evaluated by the party leadership.
AKP officials argued that while voters are following the developments in the CHP, this is not seen as the fundamental element that will change their voting preferences. The officials assessed the situation by saying, "The citizen's agenda is not politics, but livelihood. People are talking about their kitchens, their rent, and the markets. It is not easy to win back the voter without the economy improving."
THE ECONOMY TOPIC HAS COME TO THE FORE
In party circles, it was stated that in line with the reports coming from the field, the economy has once again become the priority agenda item. While it was expressed that the expectations of low-income citizens and retirees have increased, it was reported that the economic management is working on various improvement programs to address these demands.
AKP sources indicated that some steps aimed at economic relief could come to the agenda in the new legislative term. It was stated that the view that political debates will not create the expected effect on voters without a noticeable improvement in economic indicators has gained weight within the party.
