AKP's Şamil Tayyar gives a date for early elections! 'Erdoğan will definitely be a candidate'

Attending the AKP Şanlıurfa Provincial Congress, İbrahim Tatlıses asked AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, "Are you in or out for the next presidential term? Let's get this promise." Erdoğan responded by saying, "If you are in, I am in," signaling his candidacy once again.

Following Erdoğan's 'I am in' message, debates over his re-candidacy have flared up.

For Erdoğan to be a candidate again, an early election must be held before 2028.

Former AKP deputy Şamil Tayyar stated in a post on his social media account that Erdoğan will be a presidential candidate again.

Giving a date for early elections, Tayyar noted the following:

"Our President's re-candidacy is on the agenda.

My opinion is that he definitely will be.

For this, it is sufficient for the parliament to decide on an early election.

Will it? I think it will.

Although the CHP leader announced that they are against a calendar after November 2025, it is not in line with political practice.

I am of the opinion that the CHP cannot oppose an early election proposal on a reasonable date.

A reasonable date?

I estimate that about 1 year earlier, May 2027, would be appropriate.

In other words, I think…

If our President considers running again, he would want to solve this problem with the CHP, not the DEM.

He will likely solve it."
