AKP's Şamil Tayyar reacts to that practice: 'The state does not set traps for its citizens'

There is little time left until Eid al-Adha. Minister of Interior Ali Yerlikaya had announced new measures to prevent loss of life in traffic accidents during the holiday period.

Among the decisions announced by Yerlikaya, the radar practice to be implemented every 30 kilometers has divided drivers.

Former AKP deputy Şamil Tayyar reacted to the controversial regulation. Tayyar argued that the decisions to be implemented could not be explained by the goal of preventing loss of life and said, 'The state does not set traps for its citizens.'

The full statement by Şamil Tayyar is as follows:

"A new social reaction seems poised to upend the list of priority issues.

Radars supported by artificial intelligence and placed at specific intervals on every route, and exaggerated sieges reaching as far as tractors on village roads, are more reminiscent of a collection mobilization than traffic control.

Social anger is multiplying day by day.

"CANNOT BE EXPLAINED BY PREVENTING LOSS OF LIFE"

Because, setting a 50 km speed limit on 3-lane dual carriageways, placing radars every 30 km, turning ring roads and highways into radar fields, and entering even village roads cannot be explained by the goal of 'preventing loss of life'.

The same goes for the radar density on main arteries where traffic comes to a standstill due to congestion.

Traffic inspection is undoubtedly very important.

The primary purpose of a penalty should be 'preventive' in nature, not based on the cunning of 'how can I issue a fine.' The state does not set traps for its citizens."
