Signal from AKP for concert ban in municipalities! Details of the new regulation have emerged

Following the statement made by President and AKP Chairman Recep Tayyip Erdoğan at the opening of the Turkish Grand National Assembly on October 1, it has been reported that preparations for a significant regulation concerning local governments have been initiated. In his statement, Erdoğan had said, "We will further consolidate transparency, accountability, and efficiency in the public sector by implementing steps that will strengthen fiscal discipline in local governments." This statement revealed that the AKP plans to make fundamental changes to the Metropolitan Municipality Law and the Municipality Law No. 5393.

NEW REGULATIONS FOR THE METROPOLITAN MUNICIPALITY LAW

Within the scope of the new regulation, the powers, revenues, expenditure items, and services provided by municipalities will be re-evaluated. By establishing strict fiscal audit and control mechanisms for municipalities, efforts will be made to clearly define priorities among expenditure items.

PRIORITY WILL BE GIVEN TO BASIC SERVICES

With the new regulation, it will be ensured that municipalities primarily fulfill services aimed at basic human needs such as drinking water, sewage, wastewater, environmental cleaning, landscaping, maintenance, and repair. It will become mandatory to use budgets for these services more effectively.

LIMITATIONS WILL BE IMPOSED ON EXPENDITURES

It is stated that limitations will be imposed on the expenditures of municipalities for cultural and social activities. In particular, expenditure items such as "concerts, promotions, public relations, press and publishing, and mayoral representation and hospitality" will both be limited and subjected to strict auditing.

It has been learned that AKP officials have begun holding meetings with municipalities and relevant institutions as part of the regulatory process.
