AKP's Zeybekci expresses regret over EYT, delivers sad news to retirees

Zeybekci made evaluations regarding the agenda on a CNN Türk broadcast. Here are the highlights from the statements made by the AKP figure:

Stating that "we have forced the retirement system into a narrow corridor through EYT (Retirement at Age of Retirement)," Zeybekci said, "EYT means consuming the resources of the future today."

Zeybekci spoke as follows:

Unfortunately, we have forced our retirement system into a very narrow corridor. We have over 16 million retirees. This is not sustainable. This is not a political issue; this is a national issue.

When engaging in politics, one must act with concern for the country and concern for the future. At the time, my views on EYT were negative. But on the other hand, saying 'if the subject is the homeland, the rest is detail,' things that should not have been done regarding EYT were done.

EYT means consuming the resources of the future today. For this reason, we must stay away from these, we must stay away from populism.

Expectations are infinite, resources are limited. If you look at the economic trend in the world, as Turkey, we are on the right path. We support monetary measures.

If we consider the fight against inflation as a whole program, it is not possible to eliminate demands. But there is the issue of demand increasing through monetary measures.

We need to start with support in agriculture and food in Turkey. It would be wrong to just say retirees. We need to look at low-income earners, minimum wage earners, tradespeople, and farmers. You cannot increase prosperity by increasing money.

We have left the difficult part behind with the measures that needed to be taken. What we need to do is increase prosperity. This happens by increasing supply and production.

THIS IS HOW HE DELIVERED THE SAD NEWS TO RETIREES

Stating that problems would not be solved by raising retirement pensions, Zeybekci said, "If it could be solved by giving retirees 25 thousand liras, there would be no poor countries left in the world; everyone would give plenty of money and the problems would end. The solution is to increase products, goods, and employment. We must make a decision as a country, all together."
