Volunteer emerges in AKP to meet with terrorist leader Öcalan: 'I will go to İmralı'

Bülent Arınç, one of the founding members of the AKP and a former Parliament Speaker, addressed the possibility of the commission formed in Parliament within the framework of the new resolution process, which the government calls "Terror-Free Turkey," establishing direct contact with the leader of the terrorist organization PKK, Abdullah Öcalan.

"If you don't take risks, success won't come. You have to take risks for success," said Arınç, stating that he could go to İmralı himself if necessary for the process to move forward, adding, "If no one volunteers for this, I will go to İmralı and meet with Öcalan if necessary."

Arınç said, "If the commission formed by the Grand National Assembly of Turkey wants to conduct the process healthily, Abdullah Öcalan must be heard directly in İmralı."

"Avoiding, ignoring, or saying 'I didn't hear' does not bring a solution," said Arınç, arguing that this meeting "should be held under the supervision of institutions that bear the moral and political responsibility of the process."

GENERAL AMNESTY AND 'RIGHT TO HOPE' STATEMENT

Bülent Arınç, who was a guest on Oğuz İlgiç's program on TV5, also touched upon the general amnesty regulation and the "right to hope" issues. Arınç said, "Öcalan can also be evaluated within this category of rights, just like other life-sentence prisoners."

In this broadcast, we discussed Israel's terrorist attitude towards the global Sumud Fleet, the ceasefire agreement signed between Hamas and Israel, the "Terror-Free Turkey" process that has begun in Turkey, general amnesty debates, and the necessity of a possible visit to İmralı.

The agenda in Turkey is changing rapidly. However, there are some issues that we cannot reach a true social peace without solving. I believe that concrete, courageous, and swift steps must be taken to overcome such deep-seated problems. For example, as I have been saying for years regarding a general amnesty: The only step that can resolve human rights violations in the judiciary, social unrest, and the congestion in prisons is a fair general amnesty regulation with a defined scope. This is not just a legal necessity, but a humanitarian one. Because where justice is delayed, the mercy of the state must speak.

In connection with this, the issue of the Right to Hope is also an important principle in international law. This concept, which has been put forward by the decisions of the European Court of Human Rights, provides for the possibility of re-evaluation for persons sentenced to life imprisonment after a certain period. The practice defines a framework applicable to all life-sentence prisoners, regardless of the nature of the crime. Therefore, this issue is not about the pardon or acquittal of individuals; it is a matter of the state acting in accordance with universal standards within its own legal order. In this context, Öcalan can also be evaluated within this category of rights, just like other life-sentence prisoners.

Likewise, true dialogue and courage are required for a permanent solution to the terror problem that has not been solved for years. I also stated this in the program:

I also agree with the courageous move of the Nationalist Movement Party Chairman, Mr. Devlet Bahçeli, on this issue. We cannot make progress by only indirectly referring to his statements without talking to a figure who still maintains a de facto sphere of influence over the PKK today. It is necessary to talk directly, listen, and share the result of this with the public transparently.

As I mentioned in the interview, it is possible for this visit to be made by deputies, with one representative from each political party. If such a visit by deputies is not deemed appropriate, then individuals who are respected by all segments of society, known for their objectivity, who have served in the state in the past, or who have academic prestige can be assigned. These people must possess the qualities of statesmanship and must have gained trust through their past work. Because the language of peace begins with credibility.

And finally, I say this clearly: If you don't take risks, success won't come. You have to take risks for success. If no one volunteers for this, I will go to İmralı and meet with Öcalan if necessary. I will share all the details of the meeting transparently, either with the Parliamentary Commission or with the public. Because this country will grow not by staying silent, but by talking, confronting, and solving.
