AKP's Şamil Tayyar weighs in on 'lieutenants' controversy
Former AKP deputy Şamil Tayyar shared a post on his social media account following the dismissal of 5 lieutenants and 3 disciplinary officers from the Turkish Armed Forces (TSK) as part of the investigation into the sword oath ceremony. Tayyar described the dismissal of the lieutenants as a "power game."
Following the Military Academy graduation ceremony, 5 lieutenants who crossed their swords, recited the officer's oath, and chanted the slogan "We are the soldiers of Mustafa Kemal" were dismissed from the Turkish Armed Forces (TSK) on the grounds of 'indiscipline'.
While reactions to the dismissal decision regarding the lieutenants continue, former AKP deputy Şamil Tayyar used praise-filled language regarding the decision on his social media account.
Evaluating the decision to dismiss the lieutenants as the AKP's struggle against military tutelage or the established order, Şamil Tayyar stated that the government won the "politics of conflict."
Tayyar stated, "The greatest motivation in this power game it won was the strong will of the nation. Today. It is both in power and in control," he said.
Şamil Tayyar's post is as follows:
"The AK Party defeated military tutelage/the established order through the politics of conflict. It did the right thing. Although it was in power for years, it was not in control; the greatest motivation in this power game it won was the strong will of the nation. Today. It is both in power and in control.
It is the most powerful political entity of the years following Atatürk. Conditions have changed. I believe that the conflict strategy in an anti-democratic environment has reached its shelf life in an environment where the national will is sovereign. Because a strategy that produces correct results at the beginning does not produce the same result under new conditions. In this context, I believe there is benefit in lowering social and political tension.
Furthermore, the determining role on the political agenda should belong to the political institution. If other institutions determine the course of the state, society, and politics, our democracy suffers a great wound. In summary. Civilian politics should be the one that sets the agenda, not the one whose agenda is set."
