Akşener: "My relatives have no ties to municipalities!"
İYİ Party Chair Meral Akşener stated that neither she nor her first-degree relatives have any business or financial ties to any municipality, saying, "We have no companies abroad, and we have no ties to municipalities or ministers. If you can prove it, I will quit politics. It is very important to be beyond blackmail."
Meral Akşener arrived in Aydın for the introduction of her party's candidates. Speaking at the candidate introduction meeting held at the Atatürk Indoor Sports Hall, Chair Akşener addressed the candidates, saying, "You will not steal, you will not let others steal, and you will prevent waste."
Pointing out that it is very important to be beyond blackmail in politics, Akşener said, "This election is one where you can stop those who say, 'I can wrap these people around my finger under any circumstances' and who act with arrogance. If anyone can prove that any first-degree relative of mine has any business or financial relationship with any municipality, I will quit politics. If Erdoğan or his municipalities or ministers have any acquaintance with any member of my family, let them bring it forward. It turns out that being beyond blackmail is a very important thing. My family has no companies in America or Europe, neither through the Ankara Agreement nor any other agreement. I don't have any. Who can threaten me? That is why you should ask those who set up companies for their children while doing politics. You should ask, 'Why, when there is Turkey?' This is the most important question for politics in Turkey. If the world's most honest politician turns their helm, opens companies through their children, and sends money there, it means you are a thief. You will pay attention to these. You are clean, honest, and brave people," she said.
"WE ARE A PARTY UNDER A HAIL OF ARROWS FROM BOTH SIDES"
Taking the podium at the meeting, which saw high attendance, Akşener said, "The voter should be a benefactor. Elections are the voter's wedding, their holiday, and changing wrongs is a duty for all of us in this election. We are a political movement that set out to build a Turkey where competition is based on projects that make politicians stand at attention before the public, and where solutions are produced for citizens' problems, but we have not been able to fully explain ourselves. Therefore, we will announce our candidates today in a period where it is very difficult to stand by the truth and the righteous and to remain clean. My metropolitan candidate is in front of me. I hope our candidate will be our mayor. He served as mayor before. If he had anything crooked, would he have found the courage to come to us? He wouldn't have. I am also a political party where people for whom honor and dignity are important come together in this movement, which I call the movement of the brave. If our candidates were not clean and honest, they could not be in a party that has been under a hail of arrows from both sides. Both sides are annoyed. We want to make your voice heard. This is the main goal of our journey," she said.
At the end of the meeting, Akşener introduced her party's candidates and announced the mayoral candidacies of Özer Kayalı for Aydın Metropolitan, Mehmet Fatih Atay for Efeler, Hasan Akyol for Buharkent, Behçet Alp for Kuşadası, Zeki İnal for Karacasu, Cihan Demirel for Sultanhisar, Aydın Bircan for Germencik, Nadir Mıstık for İncirliova, Cüneyt Korkmaz for Nazilli, Nilgün Baş for Köşk, Atilla Avlayıcı for Didim, Veysel Kalfa for Karpuzlu, Erhan Algan for Bozdoğan, Erkan Bozkurt for Çine, Mehmet Koyuncu for Söke, Fahrettin Kemik for Kuyucak, and İlknur Karaduman for Yenipazar. It was noted that no candidate was announced for the Koçarlı Mayoral candidacy at the meeting.
Addressing her husband Tuncer Akşener from time to time during her speech, Meral Akşener said of her husband, who was listening to her while standing at the very back of the hall, "I wear out shoes constantly because I travel a lot during election campaigns. My husband is going to have a heart attack over the cost of shoes," and asked the candidates to go door-to-door during their election campaigns and after they are elected.
