Ali Babacan's statement on alliance: Notable remarks on Erdoğan

DEVA Party Chairman Ali Babacan announced during a meeting with journalists in Antalya that they are in search of a new political path for the upcoming elections. Babacan stated that the 'New Path' Group, formed under the roof of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM), could evolve into an alliance structure with broader participation over time.

A NEW PHASE IN THE SEARCH FOR AN ALLIANCE

Babacan said that the 'New Path' Group, formed by the coming together of the DEVA, Saadet, and Gelecek parties, might not remain limited to its current structure. Noting that contacts with different political parties and independent figures could come to the agenda, Babacan said, "We see it as possible and probable that the 'New Path' group will transform into an alliance structure in the coming period."

DISTANCE FROM AKP MAINTAINED

Touching upon the possibility of a potential rapprochement with the AKP, Babacan emphasized that the reasons for the past split have not disappeared. Stating that problems persist in areas such as law, justice, the fight against corruption, and meritocracy, Babacan expressed that cooperation is out of the question unless current conditions change.

Expressing that they do not see a strong will for change under the leadership of AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, Babacan stated, "As of today, we do not see such a strong will for change in the AK Party or in Mr. Erdoğan. In fact, we do not see even a shred of a will for change. Therefore, frankly, it is difficult to say let's come together again, let's talk again in such an environment."

FOCUS: A NEW POLITICAL ALTERNATIVE

Stating that one should avoid definitive judgments in politics, Babacan said they are acting based on current data. "It is more useful to act based on the realities we see rather than on weak possibilities, so we do not waste our energy. Right now, we have focused all our attention and energy on building a new alternative," he said.

A THIRD WAY AGAINST BIPOLARITY

Stating that they aim to prevent voters from being trapped between two options with this new model, Babacan noted that they are against reducing politics to a single axis. "We do not want to tell our citizens that there are two options, black and white, and to choose one of them; we do not want to trap politics in such a black-and-white pole and make it barren," he said.

Conveying that there is an expectation in society in this direction, Babacan noted that their efforts are continuing accordingly.
