Ali Babacan warns of 'migration wave'

In a broadcast he attended on EKOL TV, Babacan made a striking warning regarding the Israel-Iran war.

Stating that 2 million people came to Turkey during the 1979 Iranian Revolution when Khomeini came to power, Babacan pointed to the risk of facing a massive migration wave in the event of regime change and internal turmoil.

Ali Babacan said the following:

"The destabilization of Iran is, first and foremost, bad for Turkey. Look, let us remember that during the Iranian Revolution, 2 million people migrated to Turkey, relative to the population at that time. During the Iranian Revolution. In '79. 2 million people, of course, 2 million people migrated to Turkey in '79. In other words, if there is renewed instability in Iran, God forbid, a civil conflict. We would be the first and most affected country; we do not want this. Now they say, 'We will kill Ayatollah Khamenei, Ali Khamenei.' The Supreme Leader. They would elect a new one in a week. The system does not change. Therefore, this idea of changing the regime, of reforming Iran by fighting from the outside, there is no such thing. Because the Iranian people are a proud people. Shiite culture is very different. Westerners will never understand this Shiite culture. It is also very different from our Sunni culture. In other words, one must first understand and know their culture well. One must know their behavioral patterns well. And like every country, a solution is needed that protects the honor of the Iranian people."

Now, if you sit America and Iran at a table, the probability of them reaching an agreement is zero. That first negotiation table was already set up 67 days ago, right? Yes. Today, a negotiation table can be set up again, but never by leaving Iran and America alone. In other words, a few credible and neutral countries that both sides trust must also sit at that table so that this matter can be resolved at the table. And I repeat, this negotiation table must be a table for an honorable exit for Iran. It must not be a table to bring Iran to its knees. You think it is not possible to change a regime, right?

Those are remote possibilities. Remote possibilities. In other words, whatever Iran is going to do, it will do with its own internal dynamics. That is, those who do not know Iranian culture think from the outside that we can do this. It is impossible. But a demand for change is already rising in Iran. Now there is a very serious demand for change among the public. Yes, there was a revolution in Iran. But 45-46 years have passed since the revolution. Therefore, there is a demand for change. Iran really needs to renew itself.

This is very important. But this renewal must come from within and perhaps with the advice of friendly countries, with some consultations with friendly countries. That is, with consultations with countries they can see as a source of inspiration. From the beautiful examples in the world... In other words, is this external intervention... Or did it come from the outside and topple the regime? No. They cannot force the regime. Or would it put it in trouble? It should be discussed. We do not know what will happen.
