It has emerged that the President of Religious Affairs, Ali Erbaş, has filed over 3,000 lawsuits throughout his tenure. Erbaş, who took office in 2017, has reached a record number of lawsuits during his term, including those filed against journalists and many other individuals.
The lawsuits filed by the President of Religious Affairs, Ali Erbaş, since he took office in 2017 have become a topic of public debate.
According to a report by Sözcü, Erbaş has filed a total of 3,000 lawsuits during his 2,689-day tenure, averaging one lawsuit for every day. Erbaş has also filed lawsuits against journalists who reported on allegations of corruption within the Diyanet.
PREVIOUS PRESIDENTS OF RELIGIOUS AFFAIRS DID NOT FILE LAWSUITS
It was noted that Mehmet Görmez, who served before Erbaş from November 11, 2010, to July 31, 2017, did not file any defamation or compensation lawsuits against anyone.
Ali Bardakoğlu, who took office on March 28, 2003, also did not file any lawsuits against anyone until November 11, 2010.
