Ali Yerlikaya calls boycott calls a 'coup attempt': The Republic of Turkey is a state of law

University students, who began protest demonstrations following the arrest of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu on corruption charges, have issued a call for a boycott for April 2.

While CHP Chairman Özgür Özel supported the students' boycott call, a series of harsh statements came from the government front. The Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office announced that an investigation has been launched regarding the boycott calls.

ALİ YERLİKAYA: COUP ATTEMPT

A statement regarding the boycott call supported by the CHP also came from Minister of Interior Ali Yerlikaya.

"The Republic of Turkey is a state of law. It cannot be bent or twisted with threats, finger-wagging, or calls for street protests and boycotts," said Yerlikaya, describing the boycott calls as "a coup attempt against our economy!"

Minister Yerlikaya made the following statements in a post on his X account:

"Those who try to incite internal turmoil by calling our youth to the streets for their own political ambitions; those who strive to sow seeds of hatred and enmity among our people, and those who slander our country by saying 'torture is being committed,' are now making a 'boycott call.'

What kind of manifestation is it that Zionist Israel is at the forefront of those watching the reckless calls of the main opposition with great pleasure?

As long as Turkey stands on its own feet, as long as it displays an upright and strong stance in world politics, as long as it does not remain a spectator to what is happening in its region, and as long as it protects the rights of both our nation and the oppressed, some have begun to stage the same games again.

Now they are saying 'boycott.' Well, who will boycott whom?

Our nation will boycott its own tradesmen, farmers, domestic and national products, producers, and its own industry, is that it? Is this what is desired under the shield of 'democratic rights'?

Let it not be forgotten that this call is a sabotage against our economic independence. This boycott call means playing with the bread of thousands of people!

This call is an assassination of our national economy! It is shrinking the bread of our own people. It is a coup attempt against our economy! Yet we say, 'We grow not with boycotts, but with production!'

The Republic of Turkey is a state of law. It cannot be bent or twisted with threats, finger-wagging, or calls for street protests and boycotts.
