The wave of government-appointed trustees (kayyum) initiated by the AKP government, which began with the CHP-run Esenyurt Municipality on October 31, continued with the DEM Party-run municipalities of Mardin, Batman, Halfeti, Tunceli, and the Ovacık Municipality, which is also run by the CHP.

Following the investigations into 'irregular spending' launched against the CHP-run Ankara Metropolitan Municipality (ABB) and Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (İBB), as well as the appointment of trustees, all eyes have turned to the CHP-run district municipalities in Istanbul.

It has been alleged that audits of district municipalities governed by the CHP will be increased and that the groundwork is being laid for operations.

PREPARATIONS FOR SIMULTANEOUS AUDITS OF 26 CHP-RUN DISTRICTS

According to a report by Cumhuriyet, it is claimed that civil inspectors from the Ministry of Interior will conduct a simultaneous audit of 26 CHP-run district municipalities in Istanbul on Monday, December 9.

In addition to the 6 audit inspectors already present in the municipalities, a team of 13 people, including civil inspectors and expert witnesses, will take part in the audits.

WHAT DO MUNICIPAL SOURCES SAY?

Municipal sources point out that various sanctions could be imposed on the municipalities as a result of the audits, which are expected to take place within the same time frame, and it is stated that comprehensive examinations will be conducted, primarily covering tenders issued by the municipalities, purchases made, recruitment, and social media posts.
