Allegations of sexual abuse at a care center for the disabled in Istanbul: 'Provided false information'

The incident occurred in November 2022. According to the allegations, a nurse named Ş.D. sexually abused a patient named K.A., who was receiving treatment for bipolar disorder at a care center for the disabled in Istanbul, while they were alone at night.

THE MANAGER SAW IT WITH HIS OWN EYES, BUT DID NOT PROVIDE ACCURATE INFORMATION

The facility manager, who reviewed the security camera footage, noticed the incident and provided a statement regarding Ş.D. However, it was noted that the manager did not provide accurate information about K.A.'s medical report in his statement.

'MOBBING' ALLEGATION FROM THE ACCUSED NURSE

Claiming in court that he was subjected to mobbing and had been working the night shift for 6 months, Ş.D. stated that the manager had intentionally provided false testimony. This was intended to prevent Ş.D. from receiving a harsher sentence.

The court appointed an expert witness to examine the details of the incident and reviewed the security camera footage. Additionally, a forensic medical report was requested regarding K.A.'s condition.

ESCAPED WITH THE MINIMUM SENTENCE

According to a report by Mynet, the forensic medical report confirmed Ş.D.'s claims, and the case was downgraded from the high criminal court to the criminal court of first instance.

The prosecutor appealed the decision and moved the case back to the high criminal court, but due to the expert report, the forensic medical report, and the manager's statement, Ş.D. hired two lawyers and managed to escape with the minimum possible sentence.

After the incident, the facility manager requested that K.A. be transferred to another institution to avoid further trouble. It is stated that K.A. is currently at a different facility.

ALLEGATIONS OF FAKE PERSONNEL AT THE FACILITY

On the other hand, other allegations regarding the facility have also surfaced. It was claimed that the facility received government subsidies by listing fake personnel to meet the required staff-to-patient ratio, which resulted in nurses being sent on tea breaks during the night shift.

Furthermore, it was alleged that the facility paid salaries in cash, reporting the minimum wage to authorities while paying the remainder under the table. It was noted that despite numerous complaints, no results were achieved.
