Allegations that Nevşehir Rector Semih Aktekin moved a faculty for his wife

Recent developments at Nevşehir Hacı Bektaş Veli University have reignited ethical debates in the public eye. According to a report by Müslüm Evci from Sözcü Newspaper, Rector Prof. Dr. Semih Aktekin's wife, Banu Aktekin, was admitted to the Ceramics and Glass Department of the Faculty of Fine Arts in the 2021-2022 academic year through a special talent exam and an additional quota. Notably, only one person was admitted through this additional quota, and that person was the rector's wife.

THE DEPARTMENT WAS MOVED FOR THE RECTOR'S WIFE

It is stated that shortly after Banu Aktekin began her studies in the department, the Ceramics and Glass Department, which was located in the Hacıbektaş district, was moved to the Avanos district, which is closer to the city center, by a decision of the university senate. This led to allegations that Aktekin's commute was being facilitated.

IT REMAINED UNTIL HIS WIFE GRADUATED

It was stated that when Banu Aktekin graduated after her four-year education, the department was moved back to the Hacıbektaş district. Comments suggesting that this change occurred only while his wife was a student have found wide resonance in university circles and on social media.

EMOTIONAL MOMENTS AT THE GRADUATION CEREMONY

Rector Aktekin was also on stage during his wife Banu Aktekin's graduation ceremony. The moments when he hugged and congratulated his wife drew attention at the ceremony.

ALLOCATION OF A STATE VEHICLE TO HIS DAUGHTER REMAINS A TOPIC OF DISCUSSION

Previously, Prof. Dr. Semih Aktekin had also been criticized over allegations that he allowed his 12-year-old daughter to use an official university vehicle for her daily commute. This situation continues to be a focus of criticism both within the university and in the public sphere.
