Ambassador to Ankara Aleksey Yerhov announces he will leave Turkey

A special reception was held in the capital to mark Russia's National Day. Hosted by Russia's Ambassador to Ankara, Aleksey Yerhov, at the Embassy building, the event was attended by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Ayşe Berris Ekinci, representatives of diplomatic missions in Ankara, Ankara Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Mansur Yavaş, and numerous guests.

The reception began with the playing of the two countries' national anthems. In her speech at the ceremony, Deputy Foreign Minister Ayşe Berris Ekinci celebrated Russia's National Day. Pointing out that Turkey and Russia are two countries with strategic importance in the region, Ekinci recalled that the 105th anniversary of diplomatic relations was marked in June.

Expressing their belief that the positive course in Turkish-Russian relations will strengthen further in the coming period, Ekinci stated that Ambassador Yerhov had made significant efforts to develop bilateral cooperation throughout his tenure.

Speaking at the event, Ambassador Aleksey Yerhov began his remarks by stating that leaving Turkey after his 14-year tenure caused him great sadness.

“Our departure date is not yet certain, but I want to take advantage of your presence here to bid you farewell. It so happened that we stayed in Turkey for 14 years. 6 years in Istanbul and 8 years in Ankara. This has been an important part of our lives, and I can say it has been a happy part. First of all, from a professional perspective, we experienced extremely interesting, important, and exciting events. Turkey is a country where things happen every day. A country that is interested in everything. As we have witnessed many times, we saw that it is the political center of the world. I thank our leaders, Russian President Putin and President Erdoğan, for the high dynamism that comes from them. Our bilateral relations are extremely rich in content.”
