Ankara Medical Chamber: 'Married/not married' distinction in MHRS has been removed
The Ankara Branch of the Medical Chamber announced that, following discussions with the Chief Physician's Office of the Bilkent City Hospital Obstetrics and Gynecology Hospital, the "married/not married" option in the Physician Appointment System has been removed.
The Board of Directors of the Ankara Medical Chamber reported that, as a result of their initiatives and public reaction, the "married/not married" distinction in the Central Physician Appointment System (MHRS) has been removed.
While reactions regarding the classification of women as married or single in obstetrics and gynecology appointments continued, the written statement published by the Ankara Medical Chamber Board of Directors stated that the distinction in question was removed in line with the chamber's efforts and the reactions received. The chamber's statement included the following:
'The discussions we held as the Ankara Medical Chamber with the Chief Physician's Office of the Bilkent City Hospital Obstetrics and Gynecology Hospital have yielded results. The "married/not married" distinction in the Central Physician Appointment System has been removed, ending the practice that caused unease among female patients. Our chamber's efforts and contacts against practices that are contrary to human rights, women's rights, and medical ethics in the provision of healthcare services will continue.'
