Another academic detained ahead of NATO Summit
In the extensive security operations conducted in the capital ahead of the upcoming NATO Summit, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Emel Memiş from Ankara University was among those detained.
It has been reported that 209 people have been detained in operations conducted by security forces in Ankara following the declaration of a city-wide ban on demonstrations. While it was stated that the total number of people for whom detention warrants were issued is 241, it was noted that the majority of these individuals are currently in police custody.
It was learned that among those detained is Assoc. Prof. Dr. Emel Memiş, a faculty member in the Department of Economics at Ankara University's Faculty of Political Sciences.
On the other hand, it was stated that a 24-hour restriction on meetings with lawyers has been imposed on the detained individuals.
In a statement made by the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, it was signaled that investigations are ongoing and that there may be further detentions. Security measures in the city appear to have been raised to the highest level within the scope of the upcoming NATO Summit.
