Another indictment against Simge Barankoğlu: This time for 'obscene content'
Social media influencer Simge Barankoğlu, who was previously arrested as part of a drug operation targeting celebrities, is now facing trial on charges of obscenity under the Turkish Penal Code.
A new indictment has been prepared against Simge Barankoğlu, who was among those detained during a large-scale drug operation conducted in Istanbul last February, due to obscene content. The prosecutor's office conducting the investigation has applied to the 44th Criminal Court of First Instance to charge Barankoğlu under Article 226/2 of the Turkish Penal Code.
In addition to Barankoğlu, Heves Güzel, Ebru Arman, Eda Alboya, Arif İskilip, and Taha Özer were also referred to court and arrested as part of the same investigation. At the beginning of the operation in question, Barankoğlu and the other individuals were faced with charges including "purchasing, accepting, or possessing drugs or stimulants for personal use, or using drugs or stimulants," "providing a place and facilities for prostitution," and "encouraging or facilitating the use of drugs or stimulants."
With the latest indictment issued against Barankoğlu, who remains in custody, the obscenity charge has now been brought to trial. Barankoğlu is expected to appear before a judge in the coming days.
