Another lawsuit against Ekrem İmamoğlu! Indictment accepted, up to 2 years in prison requested

A new lawsuit has been filed against Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu.

ALLEGATIONS REGARDING THE BEYLİKDÜZÜ ERA

It was stated that İmamoğlu will be tried on charges of "misconduct in office" over allegations that he used his personal vehicle as an official mayoral car during his time as Mayor of Beylikdüzü, and that the vehicle's fuel, maintenance, and other expenses were covered by the municipal budget.

12 DEFENDANTS IN THE INDICTMENT

In the indictment prepared by the Büyükçekmece Chief Public Prosecutor's Office Special Crimes Investigation Bureau, in addition to Ekrem İmamoğlu, Bülent Arslaner, Fatih Keleş, Fatma Hoşgöz Açıkgöz, İlyas Yılmaz, Mehmet Zeki Çanakçi, Mülayim Demirtaş, Nuray Köker, Orhan Yılmaz, Selçuk Altun, Üzeyir Çöl, and Ercan Doğan were named as "defendants."

REQUEST FOR UP TO 2 YEARS IN PRISON

The indictment requests a prison sentence of 6 months to 2 years for Ekrem İmamoğlu and 10 other defendants for the crime of "misconduct in office." For defendant Ercan Doğan, a prison sentence of 3 months to 1 year was requested on charges of "aiding and abetting misconduct in office."

The indictment also noted that defendant Mehmet Zeki Çanakçi committed a new crime while his probation period was still ongoing due to a previous sentence, and that this situation constitutes a violation of probation obligations.

COURT ACCEPTS THE INDICTMENT

While the prepared indictment has been accepted by the criminal court of first instance, it was reported that the trial will begin in the coming days.
