Another province announces ban ahead of NATO Summit

A new decision has been added to the bans within the scope of security measures taken by governor's offices ahead of the 36th NATO Summit of Heads of State and Government to be held in Ankara on July 7-8. Following the demonstration bans declared in Karabük, Mersin, and Eskişehir after Ankara, the Niğde Governor's Office has also decided to ban protests and demonstrations across the province for 10 days.

In the statement made by the Governor's Office, it was reported that the decision was taken within the scope of Articles 17 and 19 of the Law on Meetings and Demonstration Marches No. 2911 and Article 11 of the Provincial Administration Law No. 5442.

IT CAME INTO EFFECT IN NİĞDE AFTER FOUR OTHER PROVINCES

Following the security measures taken by the Ankara Governor's Office before the summit, the governor's offices of Karabük, Mersin, and Eskişehir had also announced similar decisions.

In Karabük, the ban will be applied between July 1 and July 10. While the ban in Mersin covers the dates of July 2-10, no demonstrations or events of any kind will be allowed in Eskişehir between July 1 and July 10.

Finally, the Niğde Governor's Office announced that protest-related actions and events are banned throughout the province from 08:00 on Wednesday, July 1, 2026, to 23:59 on Friday, July 10, 2026.

NUMEROUS EVENTS UNDER THE BAN

According to the statement by the Niğde Governor's Office, all marches, indoor and outdoor meetings, press statements, sit-ins, setting up stands, signature campaigns, hanging banners, setting up tents, lighting torches, distributing flyers and brochures, and similar actions and events to be organized to protest the 36th NATO Summit of Heads of State and Government have been included in the scope of the ban in all police and gendarmerie responsibility zones.

The statement expressed that the decision in question was taken to protect national security and public order, ensure the life and property safety of citizens, and prevent provocative actions and potential illegal activities.

RESTRICTIONS ON CITY ENTRY AND EXIT

The Governor's Office also announced that the entry and exit of individuals and vehicles wishing to come to Niğde to participate in or support the banned actions and events are also temporarily prohibited between the same dates.
