Armed attack at a school in Kahramanmaraş: Teacher Ayla lost her life while protecting her students

The armed attack that occurred yesterday afternoon at Ayser Çalık Secondary School in the Onikişubat district of Kahramanmaraş has caused great sorrow. It was announced that a teacher named Ayla Kara and 8 students lost their lives in the incident, while 8 injured students continue to receive treatment in the hospital.

It has emerged that mathematics teacher Ayla Kara, who threw herself in front of her students to protect them during the attack, was critically wounded after being struck by a total of 6 bullets: 2 in the head, 3 in the back, and 1 in the right leg. Kara, who fought for her life, could not be resuscitated despite the intensive efforts of doctors at HG Hospital, where she was taken after the incident.

DOCTORS' STRUGGLE PROVED FUTILE

Anesthesiology and Reanimation Specialist Dr. Fehmi Deniz Çakır, who stated that the emergency team arriving at the scene brought Ayla Kara to the hospital with her heart stopped, said, "When we received the report, the entire team was ready. When teacher Ayla arrived, her heart had stopped. We tried to provide fluid and blood support. Despite our 1-hour intervention, we could not get a response; unfortunately, we lost our patient."

Dr. Çakır further stated, "There was no ventilation in one area of the lung. We inserted a tube into that area, generally applied cardiac massage, and provided supportive treatment, but we could not achieve a positive result."

Ayla teacher's husband, Ramazan Kara, also expressed his feelings in his statement, saying, "I am proud. She lost her life in a way we never expected, but she had dreams. May God be her helper. We were going to build a house here, but only her grave arrived. May God grant her the rank of martyrdom."

While the investigation into the incident continues, security measures have been increased in the region and education at the school has been suspended. This tragic event has caused a great outcry across the country.
