Armed attack on Fethiye Mayor Karaca: 'Number of detainees rises to 4'

Following technical and physical surveillance conducted jointly by intelligence teams and the Anti-Smuggling and Organized Crime (KOM) Branch Directorate, one more suspect was apprehended and taken into custody today. With the latest arrest, the number of suspects undergoing questioning at the police station has risen to 4, and a handgun, believed to have been used in the attack, was also seized at the raided addresses.

WHAT HAPPENED?

In the incident that took place on May 23, a masked assailant, who was determined to have conducted reconnaissance around Fethiye Mayor Alim Karaca's house for days, emerged from an ambush and opened fire on Karaca. While the Mayor, who was wounded in the leg during the attack, was taken to the hospital for treatment, the fleeing gunman and 2 accomplices who acted as lookouts and helped him escape were initially taken into custody.
