Arrest warrant issued for Deniz Yolçu, who climbed onto a water cannon vehicle in İzmir
Deniz Yolçu, who climbed onto a TOMA (water cannon vehicle) during incidents following the governor's office's protest ban in İzmir, has been arrested and sent to prison.
A rally planned in İzmir yesterday with the participation of Republican People's Party (CHP) Chairman Özgür Özel was banned by the governor's office. Following the ban, police teams intervened against groups attempting to enter the event area using pressurized water and tear gas.
Three people were detained during the intervention. Lawyer Kıvılcım Çolak, who was among those detained, was released after processing at the police station. The processing of the other two individuals continued at the station.
According to public authorities, Deniz Yolçu, who was at risk of head trauma during the incident, was referred to court on charges of "damaging public property" and "resisting an officer to prevent them from performing their duty." The court decided to arrest Deniz Yolçu in line with these charges and ordered that he be sent to prison.
