'Assassination' claim shakes the agenda: Ahmed al-Shara appears on the streets of Damascus

Following a photo shared on social media platforms, it was claimed that Syrian President Ahmed al-Shara had been assassinated. After the images spread rapidly, official authorities issued a statement regarding the allegations.

MINISTRY OF INTERIOR DENIES ALLEGATIONS

Syrian Ministry of Interior Spokesperson Nureddin al-Baba stated in a post on his Telegram account that the reports claiming a security incident had occurred in which President al-Shara and high-level state officials were targeted do not reflect the truth.

Al-Baba stated that the content in question was circulated with fake statements, appearing as if it belonged to official institutions, and declared that the allegations were false in a clear and definitive manner. The statement called for relying only on information provided by official and reliable sources.

HEALTHY FOOTAGE OF AL-SHARA EMERGES

Following the statements, new footage was shared showing that President Ahmed al-Shara is in good health. Moments of al-Shara visiting shopkeepers and shopping in the capital, Damascus, were reflected to the public.

In the shared footage, it was seen that al-Shara was shopping with new Syrian lira banknotes, chatting with shopkeepers, and appeared to be in good health.

NOTABLE DETAILS FROM THE SHOPKEEPER VISIT

Heysem Hayek, one of the employees at the market where the shopping took place, expressed that they were happy to see President al-Shara in good health. Hayek stated that al-Shara chatted with the shopkeepers and took an interest in the citizens around him.

Razan Halebi, another market employee, said that the President came to the market and listened to the difficulties experienced with the introduction of the new banknotes into circulation. Halebi said, “The President bought some products here. I took his payment. I will keep the banknotes I received as a souvenir.”

NEW BANKNOTES INTRODUCED IN DAMASCUS

On the other hand, it was reported that an introduction ceremony for the new Syrian banknotes was held in the capital, Damascus, with the participation of President Ahmed al-Shara. Footage regarding the ceremony was also shared with the public.

ASSASSINATION CLAIM FROM ISRAELI PRESS

Following the assassination claims, the Israeli press also published reports on the subject. The Israeli newspaper Jerusalem Post claimed that Iran was preparing an assassination plot against Syrian President Ahmed al-Shara.

The report stated that the allegations were based on an unnamed official from the Israeli military.

In the report in question, it was claimed that Iran was cooperating with hostile elements for an attack on al-Shara. Furthermore, it was alleged that following the renewed contacts between Tel Aviv and Damascus, Israel conveyed its warning to the Syrian administration that Iran was preparing to assassinate al-Shara.
