Atakum Mayor Türkel: 'We will always stand with the truth and the oppressed'

Following the detention of over 100 people, including Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu and Şişli Mayor Resul Emrah Şahan, CHP members and numerous citizens gathered at the CHP Atakum District Headquarters. Atakum Mayor Serhat Türkel, CHP Atakum District Chair Adem Kürek, and other participants expressed their reactions to the developments. 

'WE WILL ALWAYS STAND WITH THE TRUTH AND THE OPPRESSED'

In his speech, Atakum Mayor Serhat Türkel said, "We are very sad. When we look at our party culture, we have always stood by democracy and the truth from the past to the present. We have never engaged in partisan politics. Yesterday it was for you, tomorrow for them, today for us. With this understanding, we have always stood by the truth, and we will continue to stand by the truth. Everyone knows that our Mayor Ekrem's diploma is real. His friends are real. His professors and classmates are talking about it. We have a mayor who has completed his master's degree. Today, our mayor is in custody for reasons that are not yet official. We are very sad, but we are not hopeless. We will not be hopeless. We want justice to be served as quickly as possible and the truth to come to light. May our unity and solidarity never be broken. We are in the same place and share the same thoughts. Whoever it may be, we will always stand by the oppressed when justice is not applied correctly. We will always stand by the truth," he stated.

CHP Atakum District Chair Adem Kürek also said in his press statement, "In the recent elections held in our country, our Republican People's Party (CHP) has become Turkey's leading party through the will of the people. This great power, rising with the will of the nation, has become the nightmare of the ruling power with its determination for primary elections and its principles of transparent and fair governance. And now, those who realize they cannot win through elections are resorting to tyranny. It is not only the CHP that is being targeted, but the nation itself," he said.
