Attack on TKP members at Ankara University

At Ankara University's Cebeci Campus, a new incident was added today to the attacks by a nationalist group targeting TKP members.

According to a report by Sol Portal, it was observed that in today's attack, the nationalist group received direct police support, and it was noted that the faculty administration observed the attacks on TKP members taking exams without taking any precautions.

THIRD ATTACK ON CAMPUS

Last week at Ankara University's Cebeci Campus, a nationalist group attacked TKP members, and the attack was repelled by the party members. Yesterday, a second attack was carried out against TKP members leaving an exam, this time by a fascist group of 25-30 people who had set an ambush.

Following these two attacks, TKP members taking exams today took their own security measures, while it was observed that plainclothes police officers around the faculty were acting directly in coordination with the nationalist fascists.

TKP members who provided information to soL reported that the police and the nationalists were acting in concert, and that the police harassed the TKP members but did not intervene in the slightest against the nationalist group.

ATTACK EXTENDED BEYOND THE UNIVERSITY TO THE PARTY OFFICE

Stating that today's attack was clearly intended to obstruct the right to education while TKP members were entering their exams, the TKP members expressed that neither the private security nor the police took the slightest step against the attack, and that the attacking group was repelled by party members.

While it was noted that the attacking group was carrying sharp objects, it was learned that after the attack, there was also an attempted attack on the TKP's local community center, again under police supervision.

STATEMENT FROM TKP REGARDING THE ATTACK

The Communist Party of Turkey (TKP) issued a statement regarding the attack on its members.

The TKP included the following statements in its announcement:

"Following the attempted attack on our party members at the Ankara University Faculty of Political Sciences yesterday, a group known to be members of the Ülkü Ocakları (Idealist Hearths) attacked TKP students today in cooperation with the Ankara Police. Under the supervision of police forces, who were seen not to intervene with the perpetrators of the attack and to act together with them, another attempted attack took place against the TKP Cebeci Community Center.

We know the perpetrators of these attacks, which were carried out specifically during the exam period to obstruct the right to education, by name. Our party lawyers will initiate legal proceedings to ensure that the necessary actions are taken by filing complaints with the Council of Higher Education (YÖK), the Ankara University Rectorate, and the Public Prosecutor's Offices. However, it should not be forgotten that the law enforcement officers responsible for ensuring the safety of students, the university's private security, and the Dean's office, which should not wait for anyone's application to initiate the necessary procedures, are protecting and shielding the attackers and ignoring the crimes committed.

We warn: Those responsible for this situation, where the right to education is usurped, student safety is disregarded, and fascist groups roam the campus with criminal sharp and piercing objects, will not be able to escape accountability!

In these days when students are pushed into poverty, struggling with unemployment and anxiety about the future, and practically fighting for survival, fascist gangs acting as crutches for the government cannot be allowed to dominate campuses. Both the attackers and the public officials who insist on not doing their jobs by clearing the way for them will find the students, and the citizens who stand by them and defend the bright future of our country, standing against them.

We continue our struggle in university campuses, neighborhoods, and workplaces against those who try to plunge this country into darkness!"
