Attempted suicide: Council of State rapporteur judge passes away

A Council of State rapporteur judge, who was found with a gunshot wound to the head in his hotel room in the Artuklu district of Mardin, has passed away at the hospital where he was receiving treatment.

42-year-old Council of State rapporteur judge Ahmet H., who had come to Mardin for the Eid al-Adha holiday, was found severely wounded in his hotel room in the Artuklu district on June 9.

Upon hearing gunshots, medical and police teams were dispatched to the scene. Ahmet H., who was critically wounded in the head, was first taken to a private hospital in the city and then transferred to a hospital in Gaziantep following initial intervention by medical teams.

Ahmet H. lost his 13-day battle for life in the intensive care unit. The investigation launched into the incident is ongoing.

WHAT HAD HAPPENED?

It had been alleged that Council of State rapporteur judge A.H. had been shot in the head and critically wounded as a result of an armed attack.

Refuting the reports of an attack, the Ministry of Justice announced that Council of State rapporteur judge A.H. had attempted suicide with his licensed firearm in the hotel where he was staying:

"Council of State rapporteur judge A.H. attempted suicide with his licensed firearm in his hotel room in Mardin, and was intervened by 112 Emergency Service teams and transferred to Mardin Research Hospital. His life remains in danger. The news presented as an armed attack is not true."
