'Baby shower' party held inside a mosque: Mufti's office launches investigation

A 'baby shower' party organized by an event company inside a mosque in the Kartepe district of Kocaeli has caused a major stir in the public eye. The incident came to light after the event firm shared footage of the gathering on social media.

COLORFUL BALLOONS AND LIGHTED DECORATIONS SET UP IN THE MOSQUE

In the event prepared by an organization company called “Betüş’ün Konsept Dünyası,” colorful balloons, lighted decorations, and gift corners were set up inside the mosque. The footage from the baby shower party, which was reportedly held for a baby named “Zeynep,” spread across social media.

The post revealed the details of the concept. The decorated table set up right in front of the mihrab and carpets in the mosque, along with floral backgrounds and gift items, drew attention. The images were shared thousands of times by users in a short period and drew widespread criticism.

MUFTI'S OFFICE: NO APPROVAL GRANTED, INVESTIGATION LAUNCHED

Following the backlash, the Kocaeli Provincial Mufti's Office issued an official statement on the matter. The statement emphasized that obtaining permission from the Mufti's office is mandatory for any kind of event to be held in mosques. However, it was stated that no application had been made for the “baby shower” organization in question and that the Mufti's office was unaware of the event.

The Kocaeli Provincial Mufti's Office also announced that an official investigation into the incident has been launched. It was stated that necessary proceedings would be carried out regarding the firm that organized the event and the mosque officials.

HOLDING EVENTS IN MOSQUES IS SUBJECT TO PERMISSION

According to the general principles of the Presidency of Religious Affairs (Diyanet), mosques can only be used for worship and religious education purposes. Permission must be obtained from the Mufti's office for such social or commercial organizations. Unauthorized activities are considered contrary to both religious rules and legal regulations.
