Bad news for hobby garden owners: New regulation has entered into force

The Law on the Amendment of the Soil Conservation and Land Use Law and Certain Other Laws, which was adopted by the General Assembly of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey on June 11, has been published in the Official Gazette and has entered into force.

Within the scope of the new regulation, while various measures have been taken to protect agricultural land, restrictions on the advertising and sponsorship activities of alcoholic beverages have also been expanded.

NEW RULES FOR THE ACQUISITION OF AGRICULTURAL LAND

According to the law, the acquisition of agricultural land by cooperatives established for agricultural purposes is now subject to the permission of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry. Housing and construction cooperatives operating for non-agricultural purposes will not be able to purchase agricultural land.

ELECTRICITY, WATER, AND NATURAL GAS CANNOT BE CONNECTED TO UNAUTHORIZED STRUCTURES

Electricity, water, and natural gas connections and subscription procedures cannot be carried out for structures and facilities built on agricultural land without obtaining the necessary permits.

Administrative fines will be imposed on administrations, institutions, and organizations that act in violation of this provision for each subscription.

ADDITIONAL RESTRICTIONS ON ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGE ADVERTISING

With the law, the scope of the advertising ban regarding alcoholic beverage brands has also been expanded. Accordingly, alcoholic beverage producers or sellers will not be able to participate as sponsors in concerts and similar events by using different names, logos, or colors.

On the other hand, the supervision of the alcohol sales ban, which is applied between 22:00 and 06:00, will be carried out by local administrative authorities. Visuals and writings deemed to encourage alcohol consumption will also need to be removed from workplaces.

The law that has entered into force also includes provisions regarding 2/B lands, amendments made to the Sugar Law, regulations concerning the scope of duty of the State Hydraulic Works, and provisions regarding the shipment of live animals and animal products.
