Bad news for those using APP license plates: Record fines are coming
Inspections for vehicles using non-standard "APP license plates" began as of April 1. A fine of 140 thousand liras will be imposed for plates printed without a seal or authorization, and vehicles will be banned from traffic for 30 days.
A new era has officially begun regarding the "APP license plate" practice, which has been a subject of debate in traffic for a long time. Following the amendments made to the Highway Traffic Law, inspections for vehicles using non-standard license plates were put into effect as of today.
THE TRANSITION PERIOD HAS ENDED
In line with the instructions given by Mustafa Çiftçi, guidance and information activities were carried out during inspections until April 1. The transition period granted to prevent citizens from experiencing grievances has ended as of today.
140 THOUSAND TL FINE AND 30-DAY BAN
According to the new practice, drivers using APP license plates that do not have a seal on their vehicles, do not carry the necessary security markings, and were not printed by authorized institutions will be issued an administrative fine of 140 thousand liras. In addition, these vehicles will be banned from traffic for 30 days. It was reported that there will be no postponement in the implementation.
No criminal proceedings will be applied for plates issued by the Turkish Drivers and Automobile Federation, even if they were printed incorrectly. These plates will be replaced within the specified period.
Authorities stated that APP license plates cannot be read accurately by radar, License Plate Recognition Systems (PTS), Urban Security Management Systems (KGYS), and Electronic Inspection Systems (EDS). It was stated that this situation creates a vulnerability in terms of security.
