Baked potato and mussels proved fatal: Tragic news about two siblings aged 3 and 6

The Böcek family, who arrived in Istanbul from Hamburg, Germany, for a vacation, fell ill in the middle of the night at the hotel where they were staying in Fatih.

Upon the mother, father, and two children falling ill, medical teams were dispatched to the scene. The family members were taken to nearby hospitals by ambulance.

3 AND 6-YEAR-OLD SIBLINGS COULD NOT BE SAVED

Initial examinations at the hospital indicated a suspicion of food poisoning among the family members.

Despite all interventions by doctors, the family's 6-year-old son, Kadir Böcek, and 3-year-old daughter, Masal Böcek, lost their lives.

Mother Çiğdem Böcek and father Serkan Böcek were taken under treatment.

THEY ATE BAKED POTATO AND MUSSELS IN ORTAKÖY

Police investigations determined that the family arrived in Istanbul on November 9 and checked into a hotel in Fatih.

It was determined that on November 11, they ate baked potatoes (kumpir) in Ortaköy, mussels from a street vendor, and had a meal at a restaurant.

It was learned that the family members, who began experiencing nausea and vomiting that same evening, applied to nearby hospitals the following day.

THEY WERE DISCHARGED AND RETURNED TO THE HOTEL

It was reported that the family, who were discharged after their treatment at the hospital, returned to the hotel, but their symptoms persisted.

It was learned that on the night of the incident, mother Çiğdem Böcek noticed that her young daughter, Masal, was lying motionless and reported the situation to hotel staff.

Medical teams arriving at the hotel took the entire family back to the hospital. However, it was determined that the two young siblings had lost their lives.

POLICE COLLECTED FOOTAGE AND WITNESS STATEMENTS

Following the incident, teams from the Fatih District Police Department conducted a comprehensive investigation at the hotel.

While the hotel's security cameras were placed under review, statements were also taken from 4 witnesses.

Furthermore, it was reported that work is being carried out on the points where the food consumed by the family was obtained.
