Balance shifts at the Supreme Military Council (YAŞ): Purge of Gürak's team, previous cadre returns

In line with the 2025 Supreme Military Council (YAŞ) decisions, individuals who were part of the close working team of the retired Chief of General Staff General Metin Gürak have been assigned to different posts. According to a report by T24, Gürak's General Staff Secretary-General Brigadier General Naci Türe was assigned to Kars, and his Chief of Staff Brigadier General Süleyman Şentürk was assigned to Hakkari.

CHANGES IN HEADQUARTERS DUTIES

Within the scope of the YAŞ decisions, some names from General Gürak's team, who retired due to "lack of cadre," were sent outside of headquarters. While Brigadier General Türe was appointed as the Commander of the 14th Mechanized Infantry Brigade in Kars, Şentürk was sent to the Mountain and Commando Brigade Command in Hakkari. Brigadier General Rüştü Topçu was appointed as the General Staff Secretary-General.

CHANGES IN THREE CRITICAL POSITIONS

Changes occurred in three important positions with the Council's decisions. Major General Fethi Oltulu was appointed to the Spring Shield Operation Area Command in Hatay, and Major General Burhan Aktaş was appointed as the Vice Rector of the National Defense University. General Staff Operations Chief Major General Subutay Adaş was directly retired.

ROTATION IN INTELLIGENCE DEPARTMENTS

On the other hand, Lieutenant General Yaşar Kadıoğlu, who was appointed as the General Staff Intelligence Chief in 2024, was moved to the Air Force Command Inspection and Evaluation Department. New assignments were also made in the Land and Naval Forces Intelligence Departments.

THOSE REMOVED DURING THE GÜRAK ERA RETURN

Another point that drew attention in the YAŞ decisions was the return of some names who had been removed from their posts during the Gürak era to critical positions. Lieutenant General Bahtiyar Ersoy was promoted to the 1st Army Command, Lieutenant General Gültekin Yaralı returned to Ankara, and General Levent Ergün returned to the position of Deputy Chief of General Staff.

COMPREHENSIVE CHANGES IN BORDER UNITS

Commander changes were made in many border units in the East and Southeast. New commanders were appointed to lead brigades in Hakkari, Şırnak, Van, Kars, Kilis, and Silopi.

NEW STAFFING IN SPECIAL FORCES

New assignments also took place in the Special Forces Command, one of the critical units of the Turkish Armed Forces (TSK). Major General Nurettin Hakan Büyükçulha became the Deputy Commander of the Special Forces Command, and new names were brought to five brigade commands.
