Bank accounts drained while watching series: That gang has been dismantled
A multi-million lira fraud was carried out via the "İnat Box" application, which illegally broadcast paid series, movies, and sports events. In a massive operation conducted across 21 provinces, 27 out of 43 detained individuals were arrested.
Acting on the instructions of the Anatolian Chief Public Prosecutor's Office's Bureau of Forgery and Fraud, teams from the Istanbul Cyber Crimes Investigation Branch uncovered a major cyber fraud network.
Investigations revealed that paid series, movies, and sports matches were being broadcast illegally through the "İnat Box" application downloaded onto mobile phones.
THEY INFILTRATED BANK ACCOUNTS WITH MALICIOUS SOFTWARE
As the investigation deepened, it was discovered that the suspects were not only engaged in piracy but were also targeting users' bank accounts.
It is alleged that thanks to malicious software embedded in the application, unauthorized access was gained to citizens' internet banking accounts, particularly during nighttime hours. Through this method, a total of 14 million 714 thousand 354 lira was withdrawn from the bank accounts of 46 people.
75 SUSPECTS IDENTIFIED
As a result of financial analyses, bank camera footage, and examinations of HTS and base station signals, 75 suspects were identified. It was learned that 7 of these individuals are currently in prison, and 1 is abroad.
SIMULTANEOUS OPERATION IN 21 PROVINCES
On August 26, a simultaneous operation was conducted in 21 provinces, centered in Istanbul. While detention warrants were issued for 67 suspects, 43 individuals were apprehended and taken to the police station.
Following their interrogations, 10 of the suspects were released. 33 people were referred to the Anatolian Courthouse.
27 PEOPLE ARRESTED
Of the suspects brought before the prosecutor, 27 were referred to the criminal judgeship of peace with a request for arrest, and 4 with a request for judicial control. Following their questioning by the judgeship, 27 suspects were arrested and sent to prison.
